The Gift of Goals
In my reading from the past few days I came across a statement that literally sucked the breath out of me. It came from the simply stated words of Joseph B. Wirthlin who said, "Create inspiring, noble, and righteous goals that fire your imagination and create excitement in your heart." I immediately thought about my most recent goals, those New Year's resolutions, hanging on my wall, striking guilt through the core of my being every time I looked at them. What a novel, simply fantastic idea! Goals that I actually want to accomplish? Goals that make me want to get up and do something? Forget the outlandish diet plan, forget the piles of junk that I always say I'll organize but know that I never will, forget the goals of guilt! Do yourself a favor, fire your imagination! Excite your heart! Use your time and effort to do the things that you really want to do. The things that will make you feel accomplishment at the end of the day, things that will bring you joy. I'm going to leave those New Year's resolutions on the wall, because they are good and worthy pursuits, but right next to those I will be tacking up my uplifting list of excitement. Writing will be at the top of it. What's at the top of yours?

From one writer to another, writing is at the top of my list too. I find that The Wirthlin quote you mention contains many right and true focus points to consider.
